Worker killed in 30-foot fall on South Carolina jobsite

A worker was killed last week during the construction of a residential and retail development in South Carolina.

According to a report from Greenville Online, 44-year-old Ascension Molina Medina was working from a height of about 30 feet at the Main + Stone development in Greenville when he fell around 11 a.m. July 31.

The site reports Medina was “conscious and talking” when he was being transported to the hospital, but died five hours later of blunt force trauma to the chest.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident, but the Greenville Chief Deputy Coroner Mike Ellis told WYFF TV that a detached harness might have been involved.

“It’s our understanding that a safety harness—he had unhooked himself—and was moving locations,” Ellis told the station.
