Worker hit in head by bullet as construction crew is targeted in drive-by shooting in St. Louis

Updated Jan 9, 2015

gunpointA subcontractor on a parking lot project in St. Louis has pulled out of the job after a drive-by shooting targeted a construction crew earlier this week.

According to a report from KMOV TV, four men fired about a dozen bullets from a car driving along 2nd Street targeting the construction workers.

Thankfully no one was seriously hurt, but one worker was struck in the side of the head by a bullet in ricochet. It left only a bruise.

The station asked a worker on the site if anyone on the crew knew why they targeted and the worker said they didn’t as they hadn’t had any problems with anyone in the area. Despite seemingly random nature of the incident, the shooting was enough to convince the one subcontractor to leave the job completely.

Though gunfire isn’t one of those hazards discussed in tool box talks, jobsite shootings, though rare, are not exactly a phenomenon. In 2014 there were at least seven jobsite shootings and those are only the ones we’re aware of. Just before Christmas a worker in Chicago was shot and killed on the job during a robbery and just a few weeks prior a worker in California was shot by a masked suspect.

In Georgia, New York City and Texas, altercations between workers led to shots being fired.
