Photo from the Alamosa Police Department.A road worker for the Colorado city of Alamosa was out painting a new centerline on a street when he was hit by a car and seriously injured.
According to The Pueblo Chieftain, James Lopez, 31, was using a motorized hand cart to stripe the line at about 10 a.m. when he was hit by a car driven by an 86-year-old. Lopez and the striping machine were thrown into the other lane where another vehicle hit the machine and sent it on top of Lopez.
The first car that hit Lopez then collided head-on with another city employee’s pickup truck following Lopez for traffic control.
Lopez was taken to a nearby hospital and then flown to another to treat his injuries. He was listed in serious condition. David Gonzales, the city worker driving the pickup, suffered minor injuries during the crash. No one else was hurt.
Drugs or alcohol are not being considered a factor in the crash. The Colorado State Patrol are handling the investigation.
