With warmer weather comes start of several road and bridge projects for Wisconsin DOT

Roughly $150 million worth of road and bridge projects are beginning this week in the Northwest Region of Wisconsin, encompassing 45 projects in the 20-county area.

Most of the projects will be completed by the fall this year, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation reports.

Some of the projects include:

  • U.S. 53 in Barron, Washburn and Douglas counties – asphalt resurfacing
  • U.S. 2 Bong Bridge improvements in Douglas County – construction of a roundabout and making changes to preserve the life of Bong Bridge.
  • Reconstructing the Wisconsin 35/Wisconsin 70 intersection in Siren in Burnett County – a multi-lane roundabout
  • Resurfacing 6.9 miles, and reconstructing 1.8 miles, of U.S. 63 in Shell Lake in Washburn County – additional turn lands and widening paved shoulders
  • St. Croix Crossing Structure approach work (to open in 2016)
  • Water Street Bridge in Eau Claire-Fall 2015 – widening to accommodate bicycles and pedestrians
  • Wisconsin 25 in Menomonie – resurfacing and crosswalk upgrades.
  • Interstate 94 projects: County T to County BB in St. Croix County will be resurfaced; concrete pavement will be replaced between Perry Creek and County O in Jackson County; I-94 between Red Cedar River and US 12/WIS 29 in Dunn County will be resurfaced; resurfacing between Elk Mound and Eau Claire.
  • Various crack filling road improvements.

Counties in the Northwest Region include Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Buffalo, Burnett, Chippewa, Clark, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Jackson, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Rusk, Sawyer, St. Croix, Taylor, Trempealeau and Washburn counties.
