Bobcat today launched its first Tier 4 Final compact track loaders and skid steers. The engines of the seven new 500 frame-size machines do not require a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and boast sizable increases in torque.

The S510, S550 and T550 are radius lift path loaders while the S530, S570, S590 and T590 have a vertical lift path design.

Bobcat’s Tier 4 solution involved designing an engine with a combustion chamber that significantly reduces the amounts of particulate matter created during combustion. Known as an ultra-low particulate combustion (UPLC) engine, it does not require the use of a DPF.

Another benefit of the updated medium-size machines is a torque increase between 4 and 12 percent across the lineup. The new Tier 4 machines also feature a machine protection system that monitors engine coolant and oil temperatures in case the need for a shutdown arises.

A new feature is Bobcat’s cold weather protection which limits the engine’s RPMs to prevent component wear or failure in low temperatures.

The cab of the new machines features what Bobcat says is the largest cab door opening on the market, offering increased visibility to the cutting edge of the bucket or the corners of an attachment. The machines feature larger windows on the top, sides and rear of the cab as well.

The cab interior of the machines has been redesigned as well and boasts improved pressurization with a new one-piece seal that surrounds the door. Operators can choose between standard foot pedal hydraulic controls, the Advanced Control System (ACS) or the Selectable Joystick Controls.

On the M-Series loaders, keyless start and the deluxe instrumentation panel are available options. The the 5-inch color display featuring virtual sweep gauges allows operators to quickly monitor machine performance.
