Volvo Construction Equipment has released its DD25B double drum compactor, which is Tier 4 Final-compliant and offers a 7-percent decrease in fuel consumption compared to its predecessor.

A three-cylinder, 25-horsepower Volvo D1.7A Tier 4 Final engine powers the machine. The company says the engine reduces particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NOx) without the need to service selective catalytic reduction (SCR) or diesel particulate filter (DPF) parts.

The compactor offers high frequency compaction with a choice of 3,300 or 4,000 vpm, depending on the application.

Angled drum mounts, a sloping hood design and a sliding seat provide the operator with a 360-degree view of the drum edges and surroundings.

The machined drums with chamfered edges deliver a smoothmat, while the compactor’s pressurized water system ensures even compaction. Eight spray nozzles with fine filters provide a consistent flow of water to the front and rear drum surfaces, eliminating asphalt pick-up and preventing damage to the machine. The machine also features a large water tank, adjustable intervals between spray and easily removable nozzles.

For simplified maintenance, the company included urethane front and rear drum wipers, as well as eccentric bearings that are lubricated for life and designed to tolerate high temperatures. Auto-start vibration engages when the FSR lever is moved out of neutral and disengages when the lever is in the “Stop” position, eliminating accidental damage to the mat.
