Caterpillar 797 Mining Truck Assembly

Anyone who’s had the thrill of standing next to a Cat 797 mining truck knows the machine is larger than life. So, it should come as no surprise that the task of manufacturing such a machine is a bit…involved.

For instance, some of you might be unaware that the trucks are so massive they are only partially assembled at the Cat factory before being shipped in pieces to the customer’s jobsite where they are put together. That on-site assembly requires more service trucks and cranes than most construction projects, period. Besides, even if you did know all of that, have you ever seen the whole, impressive process?

If you haven’t, you’re in luck because Cat has been cool enough to film production of a 797 from factory to jobsite assembly in the time-lapse below. It’s worth your time.
