Cat 990K loads truck

Caterpillar has posted a helpful training video for large loader operators to its Cat Mining YouTube page. The 25-minute video spends much of its time going through pre-operation basics such as maintenance checks, control location/functionality and start-up/shutdown procedures, but the last 10 or so minutes are chock full of information that even seasoned operators should find helpful.

The video goes through the following operation elements:

  • Time and fuel-saving importance of setting the kickout controls
  • Correct angles and best practices for bucket and truck loading
  • Floor maintenance
  • How Economy Mode works
  • The importance of rimpull settings and the functionality of the Impeller Clutch Torque Converter (ICTC) left control pedal
  • Load and carry basics
  • Things to avoid

Though the video was filmed aboard and around a 988K, Cat says the procedures discussed apply to all K Series large wheel loaders including the 988K, 990K, 992K, 993K and 994K.
