A construction worker on a sewer line replacement in a Massachusetts town was killed Friday in a trench accident.
According to a report from MassLive.com, an accident inside the trench dug for the project in Longmeadow occurred around 7:45 a.m., causing it to fill with water. The worker became trapped inside and drowned.
Crews were only able to recover the unidentified worker after several hours, according to a follow-up report. The crews were forced to go slowly with the operation in order to ensure the trench didn’t collapse, causing further injuries.
The lead on the project is Ludlow-based contractor Martins Construction. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
