Transportation Construction Coalition launches ads targeting House members about highway bill

congress building at nightJust as the House of Representatives gets ready to get back to work after the August recess, quite a few congressmen are likely to have a few more phone calls urging action on transportation thanks to new radio ads.

The Transportation Construction Coalition is running an advertising campaign directed at 16 members of the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, according to a press release from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association. The ads personally call out the lawmakers, telling them to fix the Highway Trust Fund and pass some kind of long-term highway and public transit bill.

In the ad below, directed at former vice-presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin), Wisconsin residents are urged to call Ryan and tell him “it’s time.”

“About 55 percent of Wisconsin’s annual capital investment in highways and bridges depends on federal funding. But Congress has not yet passed a long-term highway bill. That puts our funding at risk and hurts our state’s ability to plan mobility and safety improvements. Tell Congressman Paul Ryan it’s time for the House of Representatives to get a long-term highway bill passed NOW!  Wisconsin depends on it,” the ad said.

The Highway Trust Fund—which was patched in July for the 34th time since 2008—will expire at the end of October and many lawmakers have been scrambling to find a long-term solution to fix America’s roads. The bipartisan DRIVE Act was picking up steam before Congress patched HTF, but while it was able to pass in the Senate, there wasn’t much House support.

Personalized ads are set to run directed at the following members of the House of Representatives:

  • Rep. Rick Crawford (R-Arkansas)
  • Rep. Devin Nunes (R-California)
  • Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-Kansas)
  • Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky)
