The Kymera is the chopped, Cummins-powered Chevy Colorado of our dreams

Updated Nov 18, 2016

When it comes to aftermarket parts companies displaying a project truck at the SEMA show, that truck tends to be designed to show off a given company’s products. Prominent bumper maker Fab Fours, however, brought a truck with no bumpers at all to this year’s show. Instead of showing off the company’s wares, the beastly Kymera was all about a love of cool design for Fab Fours owner Greg Higgs.

The primary reason the Kymera has such a distinctive look is its wide stance and low roof line. This four-inch chop top is augmented by a custom “saw blade” roof rack and burnt orange roll cage and accents that run along the side of the truck and over the wheels.

Fab Fours ripped the bed off of the original Colorado and mid-mounted a 5.9-liter, 12-valve Cummins 6BT. With the help of a Super B twin turbo, flow-enhanced exchange fuel injectors and high power injection pump from BD Diesel, the Cummins produces about 650 horsepower, Higgs says.

When it comes to off-roading capabilities, the Kymera is fully ready for just about anything, including rock climbing. Here’s everything this insane build includes in the chassis/suspension area:

  • Modified stock colorado chassis
  • Front and rear steer
  • 5.5 ton front & rear axle tech mrap axles
  • Triangulated front and rear 4-link
  • Barnes 4wd enduro suspension links
  • Custom vice unlimited shock mounts
  • Custom vice unlimited roll bar
  • Front and rear fox racing 4.4 quadruple by-pass shocks
  • Front and rear fox racing 3-inch remote reservoir coil-overs
  • Fox racing 2 ½ x 2 ½ hydraulic bump stops
  • 3.8 atlas transfer case
  • Carolina driveline driveshafts
  • Currie antirock sway bar

The Kymera rides on 20-inch custom machined wheels wrapped in 405/70 R20 tires.
