The grade of this unique Japanese bridge isn’t as terrifying as it looks

At first glance, the Eshima Ohashi Bridge in Japan looks like some kind of terrifying bridge that only could exist in a cartoon. Looking at some of the photos, the bridge appears to be a death trap.

However, the bridge isn’t as nightmare-inducing as some photos floating around the internet would have you believe. Though, that doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s still an engineering marvel.

Yahoo! Travel said the bridge has a gradient of 6.1 percent on one side and 5.1 on the other. Steep and still probably an unnerving drive, but it’s not a rollercoaster drop. The length of the bridge helps to add to the effect, with the bridge stretching a mile long.

Photos from the website Amusing Planet show the Eshima Ohashi Bridge from the side, and you can get a better idea of how steep it actually is.
