(Photo: kln2119 / Flickr)Texas lawmakers are getting a third chance to vote on state transportation funding with a special session that began Monday, according to Dallas Business Journal.
Texas Governor Rick Perry called for the special session after confusion over whether votes had been cast before the previous special session ended June 25.
The special session will include the proposed abortion restriction bill as well as transportation funding.
Senate Joint Resolution 1 (SJR1), filed by Senator Robert Nichols (R-TX), is expected to appear in the special session. The proposal would earmark a portion of the severance taxes collected from the state’s oil and gas industry to fund transportation.
SJR1 would provide funding from a source other than the Rainy Day Fund. The funds collected would only be used on non-toll projects.
If SJR1 is approved in the special session, it will still need to go to Texas voters as a constitutional amendment in November.
