DRS Technologies has unveiled its newest rugged mobile computer, the Armor X7 compact tablet for those times when you need connectivity, hand-held mobility and durability in all-weather conditions. With its integrated non-slip handgrips and nine hours of battery life the Armor X7 is certified to military standard 810G for extremes in temperature, vibration, shock and drops as well as an IP65 rating for protection against dust and moisture. The 7-inch touch screen display is readable in sunlight.
A new safety application geared specifically for construction companies has been added as a stand-alone program for HCSS HeavyJob job management software and other HCSS products. With the new module, foremen and project engineers can enter safety related information as easily as entering time card information. The software will track and report all job level safety information and manage historical data for each job in one location. The product also helps you manage safety compliance, certification and training. A dashboard displays key indicators of your safety program across all jobs instantaneously and alerts management to areas that need attention. An incident management feature captures, classifies and documents recordable incidents for company analysis and OSHA Form 300 log of work related injuries.
Implementing a telematics program for your trucks and equipment can involve a lot of complex moving parts. That’s why a group of seven technology companies have banded together to form the Rugged Telematics Alliance and to offer a Quick Start Kit – essentially all the hardware, wiring and software you need to set up and start receiving telematics data in one box. With the kit you can install and operate a data-rich telematics system on most trucks and equipment in one day. In addition to the hard goods, the kit includes installation instructions, three months data service from Orbcomm’s network of satellites and Telenor’s global terrestrial services, an Axeda back office program, LHPT-embedded software for configurable data monitoring, and a biometric fingerprint reader from Methode Electronics.
Trimble has introduced an enhanced version of its TrimFleet fleet management program, which provides real time vehicle location and automatic status information and driver-to-dispatcher communications for the construction supply market. The new features in TrimFleet 6 include mini maps to track the exact location of all vehicles on a high priority basis with real-time map updates, a single sign-on to eliminate administrative activities for managing multiple user names and passwords, the ability for vehicle owners to share vehicle status and location data with material producers, and e-mail alerts.
According to a recent survey conducted by Arsenault Associates fewer than 44 percent of fleets maintain their vehicles using software designed for that purpose, and three in 10 keep records on paper or not at all. The survey can be found on the website www.arsenault.com. Arsenault Associates’ Dossier software serves a customer base of more than 4,000 fleets and 600,000 pieces of equipment.
Topcon has released its latest version of SiteMaster and SiteMaster Lite (versions 9.1.1) with additional development focus and support for its new RTP-300 Real Time Profiler as well as improvements to the support of field data. SiteMaster office software is a “field-to-finish” system to support 3D-MC construction and survey systems. SiteMaster Lite is designed for users who don’t require the complete functionality of SiteMaster but need to import, export, verify and modify 3D-MC project files.
BID2WIN’s latest version of its estimating and bidding software includes new features such as the ability to save estimate items to databases, automatically update contact information in resources when the contact is updated in an estimate and an enhanced item listing grid. You can also move, delete or rename folders within an archive database; create new templates from the add items dialog; expand cost structure within the estimate detail tab grid; view all component types on the item listing tab along with several new standard reports and estimate check wizard checks.
Carlson Software’s new Fleet Manager Office handles two-way communications, data transfer and remote monitoring of machines. It allows managers on any size job to see and monitor multiple machines in multiple views including plan views using one of the supported wireless infrastructure options. A cut/fill color map allows users to see a complete overview of the cut/fill topography for an entire site at one time. Activity, GPS, delay, idle or downtime status can be monitored and analyzed. Grading projects can be created for an entire fleet with a dynamic change function that allows you to change one aspect of a project and have it update all the machines on the job, eliminating the need to do each change individually.
Champion Instruments eBridge enables GPS network corrections to be broadcast wirelessly from existing RTK radios to machines at the project site. This eliminates the need for Bluetooth, DUN phone connections and traditional GPS base stations. eBridge is also able to use the faster 4G networks available in today’s mobile hotspots and is ready to make 5G connections when those become available. The system runs on a LINUX platform that can be easily upgraded as new features and modems become available. It will work with all major GPS platforms including those from Trimble, Topcon, Leica, Carlson and others.
