At ConExpo 2017 earlier this month in Las Vegas, Tadano America introduced two new cranes to the North American market and re-introduced another model with a series of upgrades.

We’ll start with the new GR-1200XL-2. This model is Tadano’s largest two-axle rough terrain crane. The company says that this crane was developed with the needs of North American industrial, commercial and energy sites in mind. When it comes to a 100-ton-class crane, those include higher reach capabilities, longer boom lengths and larger lift capacities.

To that end, the GR-1200XL-2  features a maximum lifting capacity of 120 tons and a boom length of 183.7 feet. Working load radius is 144.3 feet. A jib provides extra reach by extending lift height to 241.4 feet. And Tadano has packed all of this into a footprint nearly the same size as its smaller GR-1000XL.

The GR-1200XL-2 is powered by a Cummins QSB6.7 engine and features Tadano’s Load Moment Indicator (AML-C) with full on-board diagnostics.

Tadano also unveiled the GTC-600, a 66-ton capacity telescopic boom crawler crane. Designed for the power transmission, bridge and civil, and foundation construction markets, this crane features a four-section hydraulic boom that extends from 37.7 feet to 118.1 feet. The company says that while this boom “performs exceptionally well for lift work,” it is also “capable of out-of-level, pick-and-carry and foundation work.”

The main boom is complemented by a 33.1-/58.1-foot bi-fold jib that offsets at 3.5, 25 and 45 degrees. An 8.2-foot heavy lift jib with a maximum capacity of 22.4 tons offsetting at 3.5 and 30 degrees is an available option.

The GTC-600 weighs in at 140,086 pounds and is powered by a Cummins ISB6.7 rated at 310 horsepower. It features Tadano’s new Opti-Width track positioning system, which “allows both symmetrical and asymmetrical track positions during reduced track width operation to provide optimum lifting performance at any track width,” the company says. The crane also features a load-sensing, power controlled hydraulic system and a swing system controlled by a separate closed loop hydrostatic transmission.

An optional boom mounted auger system can be mounted to the second stage of the GTC-600’s boom for variable radius drilling at any orientation to the undercarriage.

ConExpo also served as the setting for the re-introduction of the Tadano ATF110G-5 all-terrain crane. Calling it “one of Tadano’s most popular all-terrain cranes,” the company says the redesigned crane features a five-section, 170.6-foot boom and is configured with a new bi-fold jib up to 59 feet that includes a heavy duty 12.5-foot jib integrated into the boom extension. Jib inserts bring the total jib length to 105 feet for a total system length of 275.6 feet.

The ATF110G-5 has a maximum counterweight of 79,366 pounds and at a 10-foot radius the crane can lift 230,603 pounds.

The crane is powered by two Mercedes-Benz engines: a six-cylinder, 530-hp engine powers the carrier while a 175-hp engine powers the upper structure. The crane can travel at speeds up to 53 miles per hour. The new fixe-axle carrier has 10 x 8 x 10 drive/steer with a speed dependent all-wheel steering system. The carrier features a ZF AS-Tronic transmission. Disc brakes are standard and a hydrodynamic retarder brake provides precise speed control when braking, especially on long downhill roads, the company says.

The crane’s redesigned chassis includes enhanced LED lighting, a flat-front windscreen, increased visibility, a tire pressure monitor system, tightly sealed outrigger control boxes and a new in-cab monitor with full on-board diagnostics.
