South Carolina DOT worker dies after being backed over by dump truck

road work cones constructionA South Carolina Department of Transportation worker died Tuesday after he was struck by a coworker-driven dump truck.

According to WBTW, 51-year-old Henry Norris was walking to a piece of equipment on a jobsite when his coworker began to back up a dump truck. Norris was hit as his coworker was trying to back onto Mayberry Road in Darlington County.

The other employee was identified as Wayne Rhodes, and no charges have been filed. The situation is being investigated by the Darlington County Coroner’s Office, Darlington County Sheriff’s Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

It marked the second death of a SCDOT worker in October after Timothy Wayne Gibson was killed during the devastating flooding that struck the state. Gibson was working in Columbing when the floodwater became to powerful and flipped his SCDOT truck before carrying it away.
