In a unanimous vote Thursday, the Senate confirmed Anthony Foxx as Secretary of Transportation, our sister site Better Roads reported.
Foxx succeeds Ray LaHood, who announced in January that he would step down as soon as a successor was found.
There was little to no doubt that Foxx would earn the confirmation . He breezed through the confirmation hearing before the Senate Transportation Committee, promising to reach across party lines while placing importance on badly-needed upgrades to American transportation infrastructure.
Foxx was previously the mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina and was endorsed by LaHood for the secretary job due to his experience with infrastructure upgrades including the Charlotte Streetcar Project, improvements made to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, the expanded LYNX light rail system, freight and passenger rail upgrades and redesigned intersections on Interstate 85.
Reacting to the confirmation, Democrat West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller said Foxx is a“superb and qualified person who is very much needed to oversee our enormous transportation system, which is trouble.”
