HammerGov. Chris Christie has named Richard T. Hammer as acting commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), following the resignation of previous commissioner Jamie Fox in October.
Hammer has been serving as assistant commissioner over the NJDOT’s Capital Program Management since 2006.
“Rick’s 33-years of service to New Jersey and the department bring a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the transportation challenges that face the Garden State,” Christie said. “I appreciate him stepping up to this next challenge in his long career of public service at the Department, and look forward to having him join my cabinet.”
Over the course of his NJDOT career, Hammer served in the Bureau of Structural Evaluation in the Division of Bridge Design (14 years) and in the Division of Project Management (10 years) where he worked as program manager and then division director. In 2007 he was named Government Engineer of the Year by the New Jersey chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
