Prototype gas/ethanol engine bests diesel performance

Ford is apparently developing a gas engine with ”ethanol direct injection,” that according to reports in Autoblog Green, [1] can outperform diesels in horsepower and torque. The ethanol comes from a second set of injectors and is used for charge air cooling. The 5-liter version allegedly gets 500 horsepower and 750 foot-pounds of torque.
