Play poker for better roads in Illinois

It’s always a gamble how long it will take you drive somewhere in the Chicagoland area. Trust me, I know. I live about 35 miles west of the city, but it has taken me anywhere from about 40 minutes to 2-1/2 hours to get downtown.
It’s anybody’s guess how much time to plan–it’s always a gamble with planning.
Now, it’s literally a gamble when it comes to Illinois roads. And it’s this gambling that is supposed to help make better roads, which includes reducing congestion.
A new Illinois program signed into law this week by Gov. Pat Quinn will use proceeds from newly authorized video poker, higher taxes on candy, alcohol and beauty products and higher fees for drivers to help pay for a $31 billion construction program, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Illinois will use the funds to repair roads and to build mass transit and schools. The public-works program is expected to create 400,000 jobs over the next six years, officials say, according to the report.
