Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) Superintendent I Jarrell Gray, 47, was killed while supervising a brush removal project May 18.

Gray is the 60th ODOT worker to be killed in a work zone in the history of the agency.

The 18-year ODOT veteran was hit by a car on SH 20 near Jay in Delaware County, where he was based.

“The department is deeply saddened by this work zone tragedy, which is felt by each of his 2,400 coworkers statewide,” the agency said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with Gray’s family, friends and fellow crew members during this difficult time. This comes as the department is in an extensive statewide work zone safety campaign.”
