Posted By On July 7, 2010 @ 4:19 pm In Industry Briefs | No Comments

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association [1]created a new sustainability course for contractors focusing on evironmentally-friendly practices and products that increase business performance. Life Cycle Assessment of Concrete Structures provides detailed online instruction on how Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) can be used to assess the environmental performance of concrete structures and how the industry is using LCA to evaluate and improve concrete production.

The course includes sections explaining what makes a building, manufacturing and pavement process sustainable, introducing LCA standards and the impact on TRACI, reviewing current LCA computer models and comparing building materials. Course offerings also educate attendees about LCA and manufacturing processes with the NRMCA carbon and energy calculator. Attendees will also learn results from research done by the Concrete Sustainability Hub (CSH) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

NRMCA offers the course on four consecutive Wednesdays beginning September 8 from noon – 1:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. For more information visit the NRMCA education and training website. [2]
