The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) Director of Education Initiatives, Ashley Goolsby, has been recognized for her efforts in encouraging science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers in local education.
Wake County Public School Superintendent Jim Merrill honored Goolsby for her work with the Wake STEM Early College High School during the systems annual School-to-Career Volunteer Awards Ceremony.
Goolsby works with middle and high schools students across North Carolina encouraging them to seek out STEM careers and highlighting the job opportunities available, starting with NCDOT.
Activities she provides include job shadowing, workshops and career fairs.
“I’m thankful for receiving this award, because education has always been a passion of mine,” Goolsby said. “I truly enjoy watching students have that ‘a-ha’ moment, when they come to DOT and they get to engage with our staff and learn more about career opportunities available to them.”
“I am very proud of Ashley Goolsby and the entire NCDOT Education Initiatives Team for their tireless efforts in encouraging STEM education and careers to students—not only in Wake County but around the state,” NCDOT Secretary Nick Tennyson said. “Ashley serves North Carolina above and beyond what is expected and rightfully deserves this honor for her contributions to our student’s future.”
