Nominations open: Awards of Environmental Excellence

The International Erosion Control Association (IECA) is calling for nominations for its 20th annual Awards of Environmental Excellence. This year’s revamped awards program features eight categories to recognize industry professionals and organizations for their contributions to the erosion and sediment control community.

IECA will honor all award winners during its awards program at Environmental Connection 2011 (EC11) Feb. 20-23, 2011.

2010 Awards Categories:

Contractor of the Year Award – The Contractor of the Year Award recognizes a contractor who has achieved outstanding accomplishments through single or multiple projects, or for the development of new practices.

Educational Achievement Award – The Educational Achievement Award recognizes an outstanding training program, public program, university program of study, or tool used within the industry which demonstrates advancement in erosion and sediment control education based on experience and factual knowledge.

Environmental Achievement Award – The Environmental Achievement Award is IECA’s premier award. It recognizes an outstanding erosion and/or sediment control project, program or system that demonstrates excellence in natural resource conservation and environmental protection.

Organization of the Year Award – The Organization of the Year Award recognizes an organization that supports the erosion and sediment control industry through the successful application of an effective erosion and/or sediment control practice, program or partnership.

Professional of the Year Award – The Professional of the Year Award recognizes an IECA member who practices as an erosion and sediment control professional and has made noteworthy and recognizable contributions to the erosion and sediment control industry and IECA.

Sustained Contributor Award – The Sustained Contributor Award recognizes an IECA member who has provided distinguished service to IECA and has made outstanding contributions to improve the erosion and sediment control industry over a sustained period of time.

Technological Innovation Award – The Technological Innovation Award recognizes the development of a new practice, design or process to reduce erosion and/or sediment pollution, improve water quality or have other relevant, inter-related environmental improvements.

Young Professional Award – The Young Professional Award recognizes an IECA member who is 30-years of age or less and has demonstrated excellence in their work in the industry and is viewed by his/her IECA peers as an emerging industry leader through significant engagement with the IECA.

“The Awards Committee has worked hard to re-envision the process to recognize the outstanding contributions to the erosion control profession,” said IECA Awards Committee Chair, Sandy Mathews, of the new awards program. “We are looking forward to an outstanding set of nominations. I encourage all members to consider the contributions of their colleagues and nominate individuals, groups or organizations for an award.” Honorees may be nominated by a colleague or be self-nominated, and winners are selected by the IECA Awards Committee and Professional Development Committee. The deadline to submit a nomination for awards presented at EC11 is Nov. 1, 2010.
