Nissan unveils the Texas Titan, a chromed-out package for its new pickups

Updated Oct 14, 2016

After Nissan’s new Titan was named Truck of the Year by the Texas Auto Writers Association last fall in the pickup’s first model year following the first design refresh in more than a decade, Nissan decided to dedicate a special package to the Lone Star State.

The new Texas Titan package will be available on 2017 Titan XD and Titan Crew Cab 4×4 and 4×2 models. (Despite the nod, the Texas Auto Writers picked Ford’s new Super Duty as its Truck of the Year winner for 2016.)

While the package doesn’t add any performance or interior upgrades, it does add a decent amount of chrome. Here’s the full list of features:

•  Special “TEXAS TITAN” badging

•  Chrome inner and outer grille finish

•  20-inch chrome aluminum-alloy wheels

•  Metallic-finish kick plates

•  Chrome exhaust finishers

The package will be offered in the SV- and SL-grade Titan XD with a choice of a Cummins 5-liter V8 or a 5.6-liter Endurance V8 gas engine. On the Titan, it’s available with the V8-equipped SV and SL grades.

The 5L Cummins V8 produces 310 horsepower and 555 lb.-ft. of torque on the XD while the 5.6L Endurance V8 provides 390 horsepower and 394 lb.-ft. on the XD and Titan half-ton. The Cummins is paired with an Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission while the gas V8 is paired with a 7-speed automatic.
