nddot_logo [1]The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) unveiled the state’s 2013 construction program, which, at approximately $878 million in infrastructure improvements, is the largest construction program the state has ever taken on.

Among major project areas are Interstate 29 near Grafton, Grand Forks, Fargo and Hankinson; US highway 2 west of Williston; ND highway 23 Parshall to US highway 83; US highway 2 near Rugby, Devils Lake and Grand Forks; ND highway 22 north to Killdeer; ND highway 8 south to Bowbells; US highway 85 near Belfield; US highway 85 between Watford City and Williston; and US highway 52 near Harvey and Pingree.

NDDOT offered the following tips for motorists travelling through work zones this summer:

  • Don’t speed. Obey posted speed limits at all times, even when workers aren’t present. Pavement conditions may exist that require reduced speeds.

  • Be patient. Work zones aren’t present to inconvenience drivers. They’re an important part in maintaining and rebuilding our state’s infrastructure.

  • Minimize distractions. Don’t talk on your cell phone, change the radio stations or do anything that takes your eyes off the road.

  • Stay alert. Dedicate your full attention to the roadway.

Motorists who plan to travel near the construction areas can get more information by visiting dot.nd.gov [2], calling 511, subscribing to work zone email notifications [3] or downloading the ND Roads smartphone app [4].

Remember to be safe: Check updates before you hit the road and don’t check these sites or apps while driving.
