Move Over Rudolph, the Bulldog Is Here!

GREENSBORO, N.C. (December 3, 2009) – Who needs flying reindeer when Christmas arrives on a MACK® truck?  Two of the most famous Christmas trees in the country were delivered this year by customers of Mack Trucks, Inc.:  the Rockefeller Center tree in New York City, and the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree in Washington, D.C.

The Rockefeller Center tree – a monumental 10-ton, 76-foot Norway spruce harvested in Connecticut – arrived first, hauled by a MACK® Vision™ axle back tractor into the center of the Big Apple holiday kickoff at 8 a.m. Friday November 12th.  The arrival was covered live on national television by NBC’s Today Show.  The MACK Vision model, owned and operated by Torsilieri, Inc. of Gladstone, N.J., had no trouble traversing the heart of Manhattan, thanks to its excellent maneuverability, tight turning radius and skilled driver.  This year marks the 27th time Torsilieri has delivered the Rockefeller center Christmas tree.

The 2009 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree had a longer journey to make, from Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in Arizona to the foot of Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.  The 85-foot blue spruce was harvested on November 7th.  In this case, a MACK® CH axle back tractor did the honors, taking the tree on a 10-day tour of the state, then making the cross-country journey to Washington, D.C.  The very special tree traveled in a very special trailer transported by a very special truck.  Owned and operated by heavy-haul specialist Southwest Industrial Rigging, Phoenix, the red, white and blue MACK daycab could not be missed, attracting attention all the way from the Grand Canyon State to our Nation’s Capital.  This is the first time a tree from Arizona has been selected by the U.S. Forest Service to adorn the Capitol grounds for the Christmas holidays.
