The Minnesota Department of Transportation recently bathed the Interstate 35 West bridge in purple light to honor the life of musician Prince, a native of the state, who died April 21.

The bridge features a computerized lighting system MnDOT uses to change the color of the bridge, which it does to coincide with “significant regional and national events.”

Gov. Mark Dayton directed MnDOT to keep the bridge lit for several days through this past weekend.

“Prince, and his music, defined an era,” Dayton said.  “His tremendous talent was matched only by his generosity and commitment to improving his community.”
