Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has named Jeff Marootian as interim director of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), following the resignation of Leif Dormsjo from the director position last week.

Marootian will take the position on Aug. 11 when Dormsjo officially leaves to take a position in the private sector. Marootian currently serves as deputy director.

From 2015 to earlier this year, Marootian served as U.S. Department of Transportation Assistant Secretary for Administration under then Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. He also previously worked at DDOT from 2008 to 2011 as the customer service officer and was a Capital City Fellow at the agency in 2004.
