There are lots of little boys who love construction equipment and pretend to be a construction worker, but one 3-year-old boy who is battling cancer was actually able to be one for a day.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation partnered with Greater Manchester (N.H.) Habitat for Humanity to make this possible for William Harding.

What a special treat for a brave boy battling cancer and who faces nine more months of chemotherapy, according to a report from WMUR-9, where I first read about this little boy.

According to the report, William’s mom, Michelle Harding, says he is “obsessed with everything to do with construction and tools and trucks.”

To top things off at the event, which was held at one of the homes Habitat for Humanity is remodeling, Bob the Builder made an appearance for little William and his friends.

Also, Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire told me that on June 16 William will have the opportunity to complete his wish experience by operating big rigs and cranes by remote control at an engineering training center. (I’ve always just taken for granted that I get the opportunity to operate machinery and test drive big rigs at proving grounds. I guess my job is pretty cool!)

I think this is a wonderful gift to give to this young man – to both help one of his dreams come true and to put the construction industry out in the public and show that it’s not just a dirty, rough industry as it is often stereotyped to be.

I wish the best for William, and I give kudos to both The Make-A-Wish Foundation and Greater Manchester Habitat for Humanity for giving William such a special day.
