Doug Hogue, P.E., of VSS Macropaver, took time yesterday to talk with me at the American Public Works Association (APWA) 2012 in Anaheim, Calif., about the company’s VSS Slurry Transfer Vehicle.
The SVT uses the technology of the Material Transfer Vehicles (MVTs) that is already used in the road construction industry and applies it to road maintenance. What stands out is the vehicle’s ability to run continuously and without creating seams. It can also be used with all major brands of truck-mounted slurry machine.This SVT is designed to work with all major brands of Truck Mounted Slurry Machines, Hogue says.
With the ability of loading aggregate at 8 tons/minute and both water and emulsion at 200 gallons/minute, the STV allows the Paver to work uninterrupted while applying slurry or microsurfacing. The aggregate is fed into the STV receiving hopper from a conveyor equipped nurse unit. The upper section of the STV conveyor folds for transport. The emulsion and water are fed into the STV via a hose from the nurse unit tank using separate hydraulically driven 3-inch self-priming centrifugal pumps.
Minor fit-up requirements enable truck-mounted slurry machines into a versatile continuous or standard slurry machine.
