Komatsu has introduced two new compact excavators in the PC45MR-5 and PC55MR-5. The two tight tail swing machines offer fuel savings over their predecessors thanks to a Tier 4 Final engine and working modes.

The machines are powered by a 2.19-liter 38-horsepower Komatsu 4D88E-7 engine that use 5 percent less fuel without affecting productivity. The engine does not required diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), instead using a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Designed with a focus on low operating costs, the PC45MR-5 and PC55MR-5 feature an auto-idle shutdown and working modes that allow operators to tailor engine speed to the job at hand. Plus, the X-track frame keeps dirt and debris from building up, cutting down cleaning time.

The tilt-up cab of the machines is available as a ROPS and OPG Level 1 verified enclosure or a canopy. Inside is a 3.5-inch LCD monitor with Komatsu’s Ecology Guidance to help keep operators on top of fuel economy stats.

The Komatrax telamtics system monitors the machines’ key metrics including DPF status, fuel level, operating hours, location, cautions and maintenance alerts. And when it comes time to service the machines, wide service doors make ground-level maintenance a breeze.
