KHL: Construction equipment revenues down as manufacturers trade places in top 10 rankings

Caterpillar retained its spot as the top construction equipment manufacturer in the world.Caterpillar retained its spot as the top construction equipment manufacturer in the world.

Caterpillar and Komatsu remain the no. 1 and no. 2 construction equipment manufacturers in the world, respectively, to no surprise according to the latest edition of KHL’s annual Yellow Table study.

However, four manufacturers traded places in the top 10. Volvo and Hitachi swapped, as did Terex and Liebherr though the publication does not note exactly where those companies fall in its preview of the rankings. For that you’ll have to check out the April issue of International Construction.

KHL also notes that Chinese manufacturer XCMG moved into the Top 10 for the first time in 2014. XCMG is now China’s largest construction equipment manufacturer, ahead of Sany and Zoomlion, according to the Yellow Table.

The study, based on 2014 revenue figures, analyzes the revenues of the 50 largest manufacturers in the world. Total worldwide equipment revenues fell 2.6 percent in 2014 to $159 billion.

KHL notes a lift in North American and European sales, but reports these gains weren’t enough to offset declines in emerging economies such as China, or slumping global mining demand.
