John Deere is expanding its G-Series lineup of motor graders with two new models aimed at customers who prefer lighter, more fuel-efficient machines.

The new 620G and 622G are powered by a Tier 4 Final 6.8-liter Deere engine. This engine delivers 215 horsepower on the 620G and 225 hp on the 622G. Both machines will also be available in Grade Pro (GP) configurations. The 620GP and 622GP will benefit from a new dual joystick option, says Luke Kurth, Deere’s product marketing manager for graders.

“Now operators and owners can select from the traditional antler rack mechanical controls, interchangeable GP fingertip controls or dual joysticks, whichever they prefer and are most productive with—all while retaining the steering wheel,” Kurth says.

Deere says hand motion is minimized by the dual joystick control option during changes and gear shifting. Plus, these controls eliminate the need to “twist” for blade circle or articulation.

The G and GP models will also receive a bundle of new features including ripper-stow automation, courtesy lighting and an updated high-resolution reverse camera monitor. Ripper stow returns the ripper to its fully raised position at the end of a pass with a double tap of the control. The courtesy lighting feature turns on the machine lights as the operator exits the machine at the end of the day—a helpful feature in dark conditions at the end of a shift.

The 620G weighs in at 40,350 pounds while the 622G weighs 42,060 pounds. These operating weights place these graders on the smaller range of what Deere offers and the company says their lower weights combined with the standard Eco power mode can reduce operating costs by 5 to 10 percent compared to the larger 670G and 672G graders.

With the addition of the 620G and 622G, Deere’s G-Series lineup now includes eight graders with a horsepower range of 215 to 300. Like the 672, 772 and 872 models, the new 622G/GP features six-wheel drive which provides increased traction, reduced blading passes and a 30-percent increase in blade pull.

Deere G-Series graders allow customers to implement their favorite brand of grade-control technology. In addition to automated cross-slope, the GP graders are also factory-equipped with bulkhead connectors, sensor mounts, electrical wiring harnesses, integrated controls and moldboard mast mounts. Deere also offers factory installation of Leica-, Topcon- or Trimble-ready kits for faster installation.
