The online heavy equipment auctioneer has hired Matt Ackley as its new senior vice president and chief marketing officer. In his new role at IronPlanet, Ackley will be in charge of all marketing and customer acquisition and will be on the company’s executive board.
AckleyAckley started his career 25 years ago as a consultant at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). Since then he has led development and marketing teams at eBay, Google, Marin Software and FairMarket, according to an IronPlanet release. Ackley says joining IronPlanet brings him “full circle.”
“I’m looking forward to applying my technical marketing background to an industry still in the early stages of adopting e-commerce for big-ticket items that are key to infrastructure and global commerce, like construction, mining, and oil and gas, as well as military surplus,” Ackley said in a prepared statement.
IronPlanet chairman and CEO Greg Owens called Ackley “an early innovator in online marketplace technology,” adding “…we look forward to leveraging his leadership and technical, data-driven perspective to continue growing our brands.”
According to the IronPlanet release, Ackley spent more than seven years at eBay where he “focused on revenue and demand generation including strategic partnerships, seller tools, developer programs, and internet marketing and advertising, where he was the vice president of that group for five years.”
He then joined Google where he served as the managing director of Media and Platform Market Development. After departing from Google he served in various marketing and product leadership positions at Zerve, Marin Software and Practice Fusion.
Ackley has an M.B.A. from Harvard and a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Duke University.
