Iowa DOT’s City and Country Reboot license plate

The Iowa Department of Transportation has revealed a new license plate design after the agency opened up public voting on three options for the new look online and at its State Fair booth.

The City and Country Reboot design won with about 39 percent of the total votes.

“Iowans made their voices heard in the selection process for our state’s next license plate design,” says Gov. Kim Reynolds. “I’m glad so many were able to help select a meaningful design that should serve as a point of pride for our state and showcase our unique culture to the rest of the country.”

“I’m pleased we were able to include the public in the selection process,” says Iowa DOT Director Mark Lowe. “People lined up at our booth to vote throughout the fair, and many more people voted online. It was fun and gratifying to see so many people positively engage, and I’m happy that the end result is a colorful, positive design that’s still easy to read and meets its public safety purpose. Many people commented that this design represented everyone in the state, and we know Iowa is a great place wherever you choose to live.”

Great Wide Open design

Iowa DOT says the plate design will be available next year and will be issued to vehicle owners when they add or change vehicles and get new country standard plates or when the replace a lost, stolen or damaged plate.

Vehicle owners will receive the new plate when their current plate reaches the end of a 10-year replacement cycle. The cost is $5 for those wanted to update their plate sooner.
