At the 42nd conference and expo of the International Erosion Control Association (IECA) held in Feb. 20-23, 2011 in Orlando, the IECA Board of Directors installed Beth Chesson, CPESC, CPSWQ, as a new officer and held elections to determine new positions. The IECA Board of Directors is made up of nine members, each serving a three-year term.
The IECA Board of Directors voted to elect Phil Handley, REM, CPESC, CESSWI, as the new President.
Handley, who joined the IECA Board of Directors in 2009, is Resource Protection and Compliance Supervisor for the San Antonio Water System in San Antonio.
“Our association is leading into an exciting and promising future,” Handley said about the future of the association. “There are many new directions to explore in the next few years which will place IECA in a ‘state of readiness’ to serve our membership and the industry into new innovations, technologies and management strategies for erosion and sedimentation control, stormwater quality, and stormwater management. These new directions would not be possible without the collective participation of the IECA membership.”
Other Board of Directors members assuming new positions are Beth Chesson CPESC, CPSWQ (treasurer), Lee Johnson, CPESC (director), Brock Peters, CISEC (administrative vice president) and Charlie Riling, Jr. (technical vice president).
Handley, Chesson, Johnson, Peters and Riling join Julie Etra, CPESC, MS (International Development Vice President), Sandy Mathews, CPESC (Secretary), Rick Morse, CPESC (Director) and Tom Williams, MA, CPESC (Marketing Vice President) to complete the 2011-2012 IECA Board of Directors.
IECA would like to thank outgoing Board of Directors President Mike Chase, CPESC, CPSWQ, CESSWI, for his years of dedication and service to the association. As a member of IECA, Chase has served on the Future of the Association Strategy Team (FAST), the Professional Development Committee, the Save Our International Land (SOIL) Fund Committee, Technology Section 4 (Stormwater Management) Committee and the Technology Section 6 (Erosion and Sediment Control) Committee.
Chase is also a past president of the Western Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association. He has most recently held the position of President on the IECA Board of Directors. Chase will continue his involvement on the Board of Directors as ex-officio board member for the next two years as immediate past president.
