Indiana DOT increases speed limit on segments of I-65

In response to recent speed checks, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will increase the speed limit from 55 to 65 miles per hour on both directions of I-65 between mile markers 252 and 256.8. New speed limit signs will be installed along the 4.8-mile section starting May 23.

Along that section of highway, the radar speed checks discovered the average motorist is already safely traveling at 65 miles per hour. Based on the data collected, the criteria have been met for raising the speed limit.

The speed limit on I-65 north of mile marker 256.8 will remain 55 miles per hour because of the traffic congestion. Also, the area is highly populated and there are more weaving movements of traffic at many interchanges in close proximity.
