Illinois Tollway BOD approves $29 million in contracts

The Illinois Tollway Board of Directors has approved the award of two construction contracts worth $29 million for shoulder widening and advance work to prepare for the rebuilding and widening of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) scheduled to begin in 2013. More than $389 million in construction and engineering contracts have been approved by the Tollway Board in 2012.

“After years of repeatedly patching and repaving, we’re finally preparing to begin the long-term improvements needed to address the needs of the I-90 Corridor,” said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur. “Rebuilding and widening I-90 from O’Hare Airport to Rockford is a critical component of the Tollway’s $12 billion Move Illinois Program and will improve travel and offer economic benefits for the region.”

The May contract awards include two prime contractors and 11 subcontractors with minority- and women-owned certification (MBE/WBE) and disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) participation commitments ranging from 18 percent to 18.15 percent per contract. Of the $29 million in awarded contracts, $5.2 million or more than 18 percent is committed to these firms.

Contracts awarded today include the following:

. One $17.6 million construction contract award to Curran Contracting Company for shoulder widening on I-90 between Mosquito Creek and Sandwald Road.

. One $11.4 million construction contract award to the tri-venture of William Charles Construction Company LLC, Plote Construction Inc. and Rock Road Companies for shoulder widening on I-90 between the Kishwaukee River and Mosquito Creek.
