Helpful hints on keeping cool

|  July 08, 2009 |

The last thing you need in the busy season is to have somebody on your crew stroke out because of the heat. OSHA has this helpful bulletin on how to keep your cool when the temps soar.

On a related subject, dehydration, I noticed that Gatorade has changed its formula. It now uses high-fructose corn syrup, same as any cheap soda drink. And until the change over it was the one sports drink that didn’t use corn syrup, which is why I liked it.

The people I talk to who work outdoors all day are consuming water and sports drinks in a three to one or four to one ratio. Granted this is Alabama with high humidity and temps over 90 degrees. Nonetheless,  this independent study finds that you still benefit from the electrolytes found in Gatorade and other sports drinks.
