Case Construction equipment dealer Groff Tractor is supplying the $25,000 in free equipment rental to 2017 Dire States Equipment Grant winner Quincy Township, Pennsylvania.

“Dire States was built on the concept of improving state and local infrastructure, and the positive personal and economic effect that infrastructure development has on rural communities—even when it comes to a single bridge,” says Scott Harris, vice president – North America, Case Construction Equipment. “This project in Pennsylvania represents exactly the type of impact Case is looking to create with Dire States.”

Quincy Township LogoThe township will replace and repair the Old Forge Bridge, which has had its weight limits lowered each of the last five years due to condition ratings. The bridge is reportedly on a major route in the area.

“The neighboring region of South Mountain also hosts a number of camps and facilities—including a Pennsylvania National Guard training center—that relies on access to the region from the bridge,” Case reports.

“Some of our first Dire States events were held in Pennsylvania, so having the 2017 winner come from the state feels like we’re coming full circle,” Harris adds.

Tioga County Soil and Water Conservation District received the first Dire States grant last year. The district, which used the grant to buy equipment from Case dealer Monroe Tractor, is using the equipment in its Environmentally Sensitive Stream Maintenance Program.

That effort includes work with municipalities and highway departments to “ensure scientifically sound maintenance practices in streams and waterways to mitigate damages from future flooding.”

Groff Tractor first opened in 1958 in Highspire, Pennsylvania, and now has 11 locations serving Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia and West Virginia.
