As part of the company’s infrastructure funding awareness efforts, Case Construction Equipment has launched a grant that will provide a community with free heavy equipment.

Case is encouraging representatives of municipal, county and other local governments to apply for the Dire States Equipment Grant. The winning community will receive $25,000 in free equipment to offset the costs of building or repairing a critical piece of local infrastructure.

All projects that fall within the ASCE Infrastructure Report Card’s 16 core categories will be considered for the award including: road/bridge repair or construction, utility pipe replacement, erosion control along lakes and rivers, wastewater system improvements and park/recreational construction.

Entrants must describe the project and explain why the piece of infrastructure being built or repaired is important to the community.

Submissions can be completed at https://direstates.com/grant-alert/. The deadline for entry is August 1, 2016, and winners will be announced in September.

Dire States started as a cross-country tour in 2013 to spread awareness about the importance—and lack—of proper infrastructure funding.

“As the Dire States team travelled around the country, it became clear that the margin between whether an infrastructure project becomes funded or is delayed can be relatively small,” said Scott Harris, Case North America vice president, in a prepared statement. “When you get into small towns and rural counties, those projects often provide a critical service to residents and have a direct effect on their quality of life. Our goal with the Dire States Equipment Grant is to identify one community with such a project, and help them offset those costs to bring the project to completion.”

All local governments in the United States are eligible to apply. A full list of rules and submission criteria are available at direstates.com/grant.
