General Motors has issued a recall on a small number of 2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups due to a defect that could prevent the airbag from deploying.

The automaker is recalling a total of 60 Silverados and Sierras manufactured between Oct. 13 and 14 over concerns that the mounting stud used to secure the trucks’ airbag Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) may have been incorrectly positioned.

The defect could cause the SDM housing to fracture. If that happens water could seep into the housing and prevent the airbag from deploying in the event of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will have the mounting stud repositioned and the SDM replaced, free of charge.

Owners can check if their truck is affected by the recall by entering their VIN at recalls.gm.com.
