The interchange is seen in this still from WSBTV footage.Georgia is set to spend more money than it’s ever spent on a road project to redesign and reconstruct the Interstate 285/GA 400 interchange for $1.1 billion, but first, the state has to decide who’s going to the work.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports four teams of contractors have submitted their proposals to take on the $1.1 billion project. The proposals are up for public review before the Georgia Department of Transportation gives its recommendation in December.
The four teams, which were shortlisted back in February, will design and build the project, as well as finance a portion of the project. The team will get paid back by the state over an unspecified number of years.
The expensive project, which was officially authorized in July, is set to ease the traffic in one of Georgia’s most congested intersections, with upwards of 400,000 vehicles passing through each day. The project will add new flyover ramps and lanes to cut down the average commute by 8 hours a year by 2019.

AWH Roadbuilders, LLC:
- Contractors: Archer Western Contractors LLC and Hubbard Construction
- Engineer: Parsons
Dragados-Flatiron-Prince JV
- Contractors: Dragados USA Inc, Flat Iron Constructors Inc. and Prince
- Engineers: Figg Bridge Engineering and Stantec Consulting Services Inc
North Perimeter Contractors
- Contractor: Ferrovial Agroman US Corp
- Engineers: The Louis Berger Group Inc and Neel-Shaffer
Skanska/Balfour Betty, a Joint Venture
- Contractors: Skanska and Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Inc.
- Engineer: Atkins
