Early Thursday morning, Ford took the wraps off its newest F-Series Super Duty models, announcing both the 2015 F-450 and the 2015 F-250 King Ranch Super Duty. Those attending the State Fair of Texas in Dallas will get the first in-person look at these new pickups.
Both trucks will feature Ford’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbo diesel. Ford says its engineers have been listening to customers since the debut of the Power Stroke V-8 in 2011 and have examined “each component of the engine” in order to boost performance in this second generation.
The 2015 F-450 boasts a strengthened frame, an upgraded suspension and 19.5-inch wheels and tires. Ford has also upgraded the F-450’s rear driveline U-joints and increased fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailer capacity.
Meanwhile, the 2015 King Ranch Super Duty has received some Texas-inspired interior upgrades. The Running W, the brand used on cattle raised at the actual King Ranch in Texas, has been stitched into the Mesa leather seat backs and center console to make them appear as if they’ve been branded.
Exterior updates to the King Ranch include a new darker Caribou paint for the wheel lip moldings, bumpers and lower body. The bed rail caps, bumper caps and running boards are painted black and the Running W is featured on the wheel caps.
But what about power and that improved Power Stroke V-8? Ford says the key design feature of the Power Stroke, it’s reverse flow layout, has been built upon with a larger GT37 turbocharger that replaces the GT32 in the first generation engine.
Ford hasn’t shared specific power specs yet, but says that the new turbocharger allows the Power Stroke to produce more than the 400 horsepower and 800 lb.-ft. of torque today’s model does. Ford says another benefit of the new larger turbocharger is improved engine exhaust braking.
Ford engineers also improved upon the engine’s fuel delivery system with a new high-pressure fuel pump and fuel injectors. Ford says the system delivers more fuel when more power is needed, noting that the system does this without sacrificing the fuel efficiency previous models attained.
The engine will be paired with Ford’s six-speed 6R140 TorqShift transmission with a new torque converter to manage increased horsepower and torque.
Pricing, fuel economy and specific power specs will come at a later date so stay tuned. Don’t miss all the photos below.
