Financed used construction equipment sales drop third month in a row; new financed units flat in June

According to the latest numbers from Equipment Data Associates, the number of financed used construction equipment sold dropped in June for the third month in a row, showing a 10 percent drop from May (7,089 units compared to May’s 7,900 units), and a 7 percent drop from June, 2013.

Financed new equipment sales were flat from May to June, but are up a solid 21 percent from the same period last year.

Looking over the first half of the year, the average number of new units sold each month has increased almost 19 percent compared with the same time last year, while the average number of used units sold has decreased nearly 2 percent this year.

The top new models in terms of units sold during June were:

1. Kubota SVL90-2 compact track loader, 112 units
2. Cat 259D compact track loader, 105 units
3. Bobcat S650D skid steer, 98 units
4. Bobcat T590 compact track loader, 98 units
5. Bobcat T650 compact track loader, 92 units
6. Cat 938K compact wheel loader, 76 units
7. Cat 336E L excavator, 69 units
8. Kubota SVL75-2 compact track loader, 67 units
9. John Deere 310 SK backhoe, 65 units
10. Cat 289D compact track loader, 62 units

As you would assume looking at the list above, compact track loaders lead the way on all equipment types sold during the month, with a total 1,329 new units sold. Rounding out the top types of equipment sold were compact excavators, 1,052 units sold; skid steer loaders, 941; excavators, 790 units; wheel loaders, 638 units;  and backhoes, 368 units. Dozers (267 units) and LGP dozers (141 units) came to a total of 408 units for the overall number of dozers financed during June.

Texas buyers were at the forefront, with 665 companies purchasing new construction equipment in June, lead by a Houston nonresidential contractor that bought 33 new units, including five single-drum compactors, eight dozers and six wheel loaders. Other top buying states include Pennsylvania (291 buyers), California (247 buyers) and Ohio (225 buyers).
