The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is providing the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department $1 million in Emergency relief funds for federal-aid road repair for damages caused by recent floods in the state.
“We are aware of the state’s urgent need to repair damage caused by the recent flooding,” Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said. “The funding provided represents a down payment on our commitment to Arkansas for additional federal support.”
Gov. Asa Hutchinson declared 17 counties disaster areas after recent flood events.
The funds will be used on SH-71 and SH-41 in Franklin County for landslide damage repair including resurfacing and embankment fixes, as well as work to protect piers and bridge abutments by the Red River.
“We’re working closely with Arkansas to ensure the state can begin making repairs as soon as possible,” Acting Federal Highway Administrator Gregory Nadeau said. “Emergency relief funds help expedite repairs so area drivers can resume their daily lives.
