More than $100 million in federal disaster assistance has been approved for Alabama survivors of the spring storms and tornadoes.
This amount includes funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration to assist survivors who had storm-related losses between April 15 and May 31.
Federal disaster assistance has been provided in 43 counties in the form of grants or low-interest loans to homeowners, renters and business owners who had storm-related damages to their home, vehicle, personal property, business or inventory.
Disaster assistance may include rental payments for temporary housing for those whose homes are unlivable, grants for home repairs and replacement of essential household items not covered by insurance.
More than $58 million in grants from FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program has been approved to replace personal property and to help meet medical, dental, funeral, transportation and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance or other federal, state or charitable aid programs. Of that amount, about $42 million has been approved for housing assistance and $16 million has been approved for other needs assistance.
More than $44 million in low-interest disaster loans from the SBA has been approved for homeowners, renters, nonprofits and businesses of all sizes to help with costs not covered by insurance.
