Even with stimulus, some states being asked to tighten their belts

Looks like even with the stimulus, some states are going to have to tighten their belts when it comes to transportation funding.

Doesn’t seem to make much sense, does it? I thought the stimulus was supposed provide MORE money to allow states to let projects that might not have otherise been funded.

According to a report in the Alaska Journal of Commerce, less-populated states such as Alaska have to “pony up” more money for transportation projects such as roads, bridges, airports and ferries–or just do without.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities officials briefed the House Transportation Committee about this outlook for new federal transportation funding with the underlying message that the legislature should start thinking of ways to finance more of the state’s transportation needs, according to the Alaska Journal of Commerce report.
