Generac launches 3 new light towers: MLT6SMD, MLT4060MVD and PLT240 LINKTower
Generac Mobile Products recently launched three new light towers, the MLT6SMD, MLT4060MVD and PLT240 LINKTower, at The Rental Show in Orlando.
The machines come fitted with four 240 Watt LED lights that offer a five-year limited warranty.
Both the MLT6SMD and MLT4060MVD feature the ECOSpeed multispeed engine that runs at low speed when the LED lights are on, which the company says conserves fuel to reduce emissions and extend run time up to 580 hours on one tank of fuel.
Ox Bodies intros lightweight TrailMaker carbon steel dump body
Ox Bodies has introduced a lightweight dump body the company says is up to 35 percent lighter than its standard dump bodies.
Constructed of carbon steel, Ox Bodies Sales and Marketing Manager Jim Bray says the TrailMaker body was designed to transport sand, dirt, asphalt and small construction aggregates and offers a reduced weight, giving operators a greater payload capacity while retaining the inherent strength of steel.
“The TrailMaker is field tested for durability and designed to meet the needs of operators looking for improved payload capabilities,” says Bray. “In addition, due to its lightweight design, operators may also realize improved fuel efficiency.”
Terex updates Demag AC 500-8 all-terrain crane with new control system, T4 engine
Terex Cranes has updated the Demag AC 500-8, bringing the all-terrain crane to Tier 4 compliance and allowing it to enter the U.S. market.
With a carrier length of only 56 feet (17.1 meters), Terex calls the AC 500-8 the “most compact eight-axle machine in its class that can achieve a maximum system length of 478 feet (145.8 meters) with a luffing fly jib.”
Along with the upgraded engine, the new AC 500-8 has been outfitted with a new control system called IC-1 Plus. Terex says the new system allows the AC 500-8 to be used on jobs where higher capacity cranes are typically necessary.
Ditch Witch intros the ST37X, its first stand-on trencher
Ditch Witch has introduced its first stand-on trencher, the ST37X, designed for creating footings on residential and commercial sites, in addition to trenching applications. The machine was on display at The Rental Show this week in Orlando.
“You don’t have to walk behind it, so you can get over a little more rough terrain,” says Chris Thompson, product manager for compact equipment. “It’s easier than trying to bring an RT45, a whole size tractor for example, on the job. You can get this on and off a lot easier. But it will dig as deep as some of the larger equipment. An RT45 will dig 48 inches and this will go 36 inches. But if you’re trying to dig a French drain, for example, it’s a lot easier to get on this and bring it on a jobsite than it is trying to drive a tractor on a jobsite.”
In addition to digging 36 inches deep, as Thompson points out, it can trench up to 16 inches wide, being equipped with a 50,000-pound chain and an integrated digging system. It features a multi-position trencher that’s centerline to offset digging. This allows operators to trench next to backer board when digging for footings.
Takeuchi unveils the TB216H, its first hybrid compact excavator
Takeuchi-US unveiled the TB216H, its first diesel-electric motor hybrid powered compact excavator, during The Rental Show this week in Orlando.
With this dual-power feature, Takeuchi says the machine can switch between indoor and outdoor work. A Yanmar Tier 4 Final engine rated at 14.9 hp powers the machine in diesel mode. The electric motor is rated at 14.2 hp. The machine also features a separate pump group for hydraulics.
“This brings a versatile and durable option to our customers’ lineup, eliminating the need for a separate machine to work indoors,” says David Caldwell, national product manager. “The addition of the TB216H excavator to the Takeuchi product line is exciting and enables our customers with a product that features dual-power options to work in a broader range of applications.”

The Rental Show for 2017 featured displays of equipment aimed at the rental market, with the goal of “closing sales”, as the event is considered a buying show. The buzz on the show floor was positive, with many manufacturers reporting a good level of order signings.
